Nutty Hodgepodge

1. It is officially fall here in North America...I realize not everyone who participates in the Hodgepodge lives in North America but if you do, what's your favorite memory of Summer 2011? If you're not in North America, what's your favorite memory of the season just ending on your side of the world?

My favorite memory of this summer, that's actually hard, we didn't do any huge things just a lot of fun normal family stuff which is a great memory in and of itself. DH was deployed last year so he missed most of our normal summer activities so seeing him there with us and enjoying his girls is my best memory of all.

2. Your favorite nut? You know I mean the edible kind, right?

Pecans. I love most other nuts, don't get me wrong, but I ADORE pecans. Plain, candied, in baking, on salads. I used to love getting boxes of pecans from my Grandmother in the mail from her trees. Last fall the girls and I were visiting when the trees ripened and we got to help pick/gather the pecans and it was so much fun. When we live somewhere long enough to benefit from the tree I will be planting a pecan tree in my own yard.

3. What activity puts your sense of balance to the test?

Yoga, I am trying to do more yoga and Pilate's style exercises recently and I am finding that they really test my balance. I have been doing cardio and weight training for a long time, and using balance balls and bosu ball for that so my core strength is pretty good, but I am finding that contorting my body while needing to balance is more difficult than I thought it would be.

4. How would you describe your sense of humor?

Sarcastic, and dry. I am not a fan of most of the modern comedy shows, they are too sexual, overt or just plain stupid for my taste.

5. September 28th is National Ask a Stupid Question Day...what's your stupid question?

Why is it that you can get mutts (cross breeds) with dogs, cats, and horses; but not snakes, whales, birds, or any other animal?

6. Roller skates~hula hoop~jump rope...which activity would you most enjoy? Yes, you have to choose.

I would have to say jump rope. Mostly because it is the only one I can still do with any hint of skill. I could probably re-gain my skill in roller skating if I tried, and I had a friend suggest I take up roller derby as a sport, so you never know.

7. What's your most sentimental possession?

That's hard. I am not an incredibly sentimental person when it comes to possessions. I have things from Grandparents who have passed away, I have things from my Dad before he died. I also have mementos from both of the girls births and my wedding. But if it all came down to a fire there isn't any one thing I would risk my life to save, it is all just stuff in the end.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I think that I am going to get certified to teach in Nevada starting next year when the P-nut is in school. I am not sure if it is what I want to do with my life forever, but I no longer feel panic when I think about walking back into a classroom after 8 years. Now that the girls are older I am remembering why I love teaching and I am pretty sure that I am ready to do it again. The good thing is that at least I have decided what I want to do when I go back to work when the girls are in school, which is much further along than I was even 6 months ago.
